The instructions for sending and receiving text messages are different for every phone. Your phone user guide will contain details for your phone.

Here is a "general overview" for creating and sending an SMS's.

To create a message, you should select the appropriate option from the mobile phone menu, such as MESSAGES or MAIL.

Then select the option to "write", "send" or "create" a new message.
Using the keys on your phone keypad, you type in the message that you want to send. You can use numbers too, and most phones even provide punctuation.

Once you have finished typing in a message, it is ready to be sent.
Some mobile phones give a prompt, others may require going to a SEND option in the menu.

Once you have selected the SEND option, then enter the number of the mobile phone you want to send the message to.
